Bills Fans Blast Obstructed Views at $2.2B Stadium

The Buffalo Bills opened up their new Highmark Stadium to its fanbase and a lot of fans were not happy with a lot of the stadium’s features.

Not only were fans not happy with the high cost of construction but the stadium has a number of obstruction views throughout their stadium.

Other “cons” include the lack of escalators to/from the upper deck, the potential abuse of the self-checkout concession systems, strong winds at field level, not enough coverage from the elements compared to what was promised, and the traffic in/out of the stadium. It is also very steep in the upper deck.

Construction of the new Highmark Stadium officially began on June 5, 2023. It took more than three years to complete at a cost of approximately $2.1 billion. The public contributed $850 million, with $600 million from New York State and $250 million from Erie County. The remainder was privately funded through the organization and the league.

It is deliberately not a dome. The Bills wanted to preserve the outdoor Buffalo football experience but an overhang canopy protects ~64% of fans from the elements, the concourses are heated, and the field is equipped with a snow-melt system.

Highmark Stadium holds an official seating capacity of 60,108 plus standing-room areas. It is approximately 1.35 million square feet in size. Features include two state-of-the-art video scoreboards, a high-fidelity audio system designed specifically for the building, multiple premium lounges, clubs and luxury suites, modern wireless connectivity infrastructure, new locker rooms and administrative facilities, and modern food-service kitchens.

The stadium was built to concentrate crowd noise toward the field. Multiple installations pay homage to Buffalo fan culture, like the broken table.

The Bills will open their new stadium Sept. 17 against the Detroit Lions.

The obstructed views is a Blessing as it prevents fans from having to see those jerseys…

Gillette Stadium has obstructed views due to the 6 Super Bowl banners

Dacotah Thompson

Buying seats like this you end up watching the big screen more than the field anyway.

Darryl Perino

But at least they got a cool 20’ folding table

Carlos Torres

It affects like 3 seats

Alex Schenck

Clear glass is not an obstructed view. Just saying

Benjamin Dixon

I always thought Josh Allen’s helmet had an obstructive view due to all those red zone picks.

The entire stadium is season ticket holders and everyone got to see their view before purchasing seats.

Nicholas Fuhrmann

I see it driving to work everyday. Coming down the 219 it looks like a giant bedpan

Oh-mar Bear-rios

The fans should be thanking the engineers for the obstructed views, it prevents them from having to see the wide rights…

Joshua Warner

Bills fans would have been thankful to have the view on the left on January 27th 1991

Would have missed the whole thing

Brandon Neff

Should be more angry that they’re sitting in a bedpan

Brian Leverock

No one told them to buy those seats. They knew what they were signing up for. So no one to blame but themselves. Can’t blame the stadium or the team.

That’s because it’s about the box seats and expensive lower sections

Jason Mitchell Erbesfield

Say what you will about the Falcons but there isn’t a single bad seat that I’m aware of at MBS. And a retractable roof. And cheap food prices.

Lance Wade

I don’t see any championship banners anywhere, what obstructed view?
