There was no mistaking the effect Veronika Goroshkova had on the judges and audience of America’s Got Talent. With an aerial act to leave one in awe, she made good on her way to Sofia Vergara’s second Golden Buzzer of the season. The performance held a particular poignancy for the Ukrainian native, not least because her mother was in the crowd to see it with pride. Four years after making the move from Ukraine to the U.S. to follow her calling as a professional aerial artist, Veronika has been more than living out that dream.
The tension was apparent from the first moment of her performance. A temporary platform was added directly behind the panel of judges, making Veronika’s daring routine just feet from the table. From a single mistake would come a precarious descent each execution took immense strength, balance and accuracy.
Throughout the performance Veronika demonstrated incredible flexiblity, control and strength high above the stage.
The most memorable of all was when she held herself up by her legs, upside down while she spun around in the air. The move looked exceptionally dangerous and left the judges — and audiences — gasping.
Simon Cowell even was bowled over by the performance, saying: “That was a gold medal performance. Not just the immaculate technique of Veronika, but the amazing showmanship too with what can only be described as a perfect act.
While Sofia Vergara had previously quipped that her seat behind the judges’ table made it hard to see all sections of the act, she soon declared it was just a playful tease. Seconds later, blown away by Veronika’s talent and artistry, Sofia pressed the Golden Buzzer, sending golden confetti across the stage.
