After conceding in the first half, host nation Canada managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium in the opening match of Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the early hours of June 13.
Heading into the match, Canada were considered the favorites thanks to the quality of their squad and thorough preparation for the tournament. However, Bosnia and Herzegovina looked more proactive and clinical, taking the lead in the 23rd minute through a header by Lukic.

In the closing stages of the first half, Canada increased the pressure but struggled to convert their chances, while Bosnia and Herzegovina defended solidly and effectively, troubling the hosts with quick counterattacks.
In the second half, Canada made several tactical substitutions, which eventually paid off. In the 79th minute, veteran striker Cyle Larin produced a brilliant turn and composed finish into the far corner, beating goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj to level the score and seal a 1-1 draw.
The result fairly reflected the level of both teams, although Canada had more control of the game overall.
