Walker Burroughs American Idol
American Idol 2019 premieres on Sunday night with 13 contestant peformances
Walker misses his friends and family back home. He tears up thinking about them. Natty in a bow tie. It’s an interesting arrangement. He’s got some pitchy moments, though. This song is too big for him, I think. He should have scaled the arrangement WAY WAY back. Maybe an acoustic version behind a piano would have worked. This performance had it’s moments, but it was uneven. Luke calls the performance, “interesting.” I’ll agree with that. ” Lionel says, “You have grown so much.” Lionel repeats himself, A LOT. “There were notes that we never heard from you,” says Katy. “This is your purpose.”

Walker Burroughs & Jason Mraz sing "Have it All" by Jason Mraz during the Top 20 Duet round on American Idol in front of Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry.
Walker has loved Mraz since he was a kid. “That’s super cool for me.” Jason thinks Walker brings style and authenticity to his performances. “He’s got tremendous talent,” but he warns him not to “dress it up in cool.” Be authentic, he says, “Just be Walker.” Those are all good points. I’m hot and cold on Walker, and I think Jason explained why. The more genuine Walker is, the more I enjoy him. Having said that. I don’t love this song, generally. I’ll just say, I appreciate Walker’s musicality and originality. Luke compliments the duos harmonies. “You walk up and we automatically smile,” he says. “You’re making wearing a pair of glasses, sexy,” says Lionel. “That was a perfect performance.” Katy is wearing her engagement ring! She loved their stage moves, and effortless vocals.

He picks up the pace at the chorus. He’s got a bit of an 80’s vibe here. Luke says he has to work on his live skills. Walker felt it was his weakest performance. Other than a few pitch problems here and there, it’s decent. I liked the arrangement. “It’s going to be very hard for us NOT to see you in our Top 20,” says Walker. Walker Burrows is in the Top 20
