Monarto Zoo Welcomes New Giraffe Calf

We are so excited to announce a not-so-little giraffe calf has been born!

Fifth-time mum Myeisha gave birth yesterday afternoon and we're pleased to say both mum and bub are doing great.

This adorable new addition marks the 45th calf born at Monarto Zoo and the first for 2019.

As giraffes are facing extinction in the wild, this calf marks another valuable contribution to the breeding program working to save the species into the future.

Sadly, habitat loss, poaching and civil unrest has seen giraffe numbers plummet from around 155,000 in 1985 to around just 70,000 today.

As a conservation charity, Zoos SA is committed to continuing our successful breeding program to ensure generations to come can enjoy the wonder of these tall, gentle creatures.
