Live updating recap of the results episode plus analysis below for Tuesday, May 22:
9:00 p.m. – Britton may have barely sneaked into the finale with the final Instant Save of the season, but the pop-rocker rebounded with the current number one single on the iTunes chart, “Where You Come From.” Trailing right behind are Brynn, Spensha and Kyla. Those three shouldn’t lose hope, however, considering the iTunes leader does not necessarily win the competition. This could be one of the closest contests in “The Voice” history. Let the festivities begin!
9:05 p.m. – Starting things off in epic fashion, five of the most memorable artists of Season14 emerged to sing “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. Mia Boostrom (Team Adam), Wilkes (Team Blake), Christiana Danielle (Team Alicia), Jackie Foster (Team Alicia) and Britton (Team Alicia) blended perfectly through the haunting performance.
9:12 p.m. – Chart-topping singer-songwriter Dua Lipa is up next to promote her single “IDGAF.” She’s backed by six female dancers wearing nothing but bras and long pants. It is an interesting presentation but probably not something I plan on watching again. Lipa provided a solid vocal nonetheless.
9:23 p.m. – Kane Brown returned to “The Voice” stage to perform his hit single “What Ifs” with Spensha. This song was originally recorded as a duet between Brown and “American Idol” alum Lauren Alaina. Brown and Spensha have great chemistry on stage and genuinely seem to enjoy singing together. I’m almost believing the lyrics the two of them are singing to each other are true. They would make an adorable couple.
9:35 p.m. – Next up, three-time Grammy nominee James Bay is joining Alicia for a performance of “Us.” Bay is on guitar while Alicia hammers her signature keys at the piano before standing up to join him face to face. The two sound great together on this emotional track and drew thunderous applause from the live audience.
9:42 p.m. – Season 13 champion Chloe Kohanski is returning to “The Voice” to debut the first single since winning, “Come This Far.” I’m happy to hear Chloe didn’t sell out to mainstream pop music and has maintained her rock edge. She descended down a giant staircase while belting out the lyrics with that husky voice that won her the crown. Following the performance she told Carson that she hopes to bring rock music back to the mainstream with her upcoming album.
9:55 p.m. – Two-time Grammy nominee Julia Michaels is joining Brynn on stage for a performance of two of Michaels’ singles, “Issues” and “Jump.” Michaels actually penned Brynn’s original song she sang on Monday’s performance episode, “Walk My Way.” The pair of them sound great together and Michaels provides an example of the type of career Brynn could model. She definitely sings her music well.
10:05 p.m. – Some of the season’s most powerful vocalists are sharing the stage now to sing “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.” Sharane Calister (Team Adam), Rayshun LamMarr (Team Adam), Johnny Bliss (Team Alicia) and Kyla (Team Blake) put their soulful instincts together to deliver this trippy rendition. I’m not sure I love the arrangement, but it’s fun to see these four on stage together.
Brynn Cartelli and Julia Michaels sing a medley of "Issues" and "Jump" during The Voice live finale.
10:15 p.m. – Florence and the Machine is up next to perform their latest single “Hunger.” It is in the same vein as prior hits of theirs so it could be hitting the airwaves of radio soon. Florence Welch is always fun to watch on stage. Her bizarre movement is so dramatic and entertaining. She’s skipping and spinning around the stage like she’s in a field of daisies. I give this performance a thumbs up for originality.
Britton Buchanan and Ryan Adams sing "To Be Without You" during The Voice live finale.
After 110 minutes of performances and highlight reels it is finally time to hear some results! Before learning who finishes in fourth place, Carson is giving the contestants a moment to sing their coaches’ praises. Finally, it’s time to get serious. The artist finishing in fourth place is…Spensha. The artist finishing in third place is…Kyla. After the break, either Brynn or Britton will be named “The Voice.”
The winner of Season 16 of “The Voice” is…Brynn Cartelli! She makes history as the youngest winner ever. Kelly Clarkson has become a champion coach in her first season. Congratulations to both of them! And congrats are also due to runner-up Britton Buchanan and his coach Alicia Keys as well. That’s a wrap!

I have nothing against Kyla as she can sing for sure. I do wish The Voice would change rules for its future as I personally don't think it's fair to have participants in this who sing background vocals with major stars. Obviously they can sing or these stars wouldn't have them. I just think when some of these kids are using this as their one big shot, the playing field should be more even.
It's still a great show ! Wonderful job.
