NFL Expected To Make Change To Coaching Hire Process After Josh McDaniels-Fiasco

Last month, it was reported that Josh McDaniels had verbally agreed to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts after he conducted a second interview with owner Jim Irsay and general manger Chris Ballard.

The Colts had began putting together McDaniels’ coaching staff as they waited for the Patriots 2017-18 season to end before making the hire official.

Well immediately following the Patriots Super Bowl loss, the Colts announced they hired McDaniels, only to have McDaniels spurn them and return as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator, forcing Indy to re-open their search that ended with Frank Reich getting the job.

Well, now the NFL is taking a measure to avoid these type of mix-ups. According to NFL Network’s Judy Battista the league is expected to change the rule and allow teams to hire coaches to be hired regardless if their team is finished playing or not:

Another thing: league is expected to change the rule to allow teams to hire coaches, even while their teams are still active in the playoffs. That proposal has come up before and has failed, but is expected to have greater support after the Josh McDaniels situation with Colts.

Battista did note that there has been such proposals that have been made in the past without getting support for a change, but after the McDaniels-fiasco, maybe more support for this will gain traction?

Peyton Wilfley West. East. North. South. Long ago, the 8 divisions lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Patriots attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, Eli Manning vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Nick Foles. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Nick Foles can save the NFL.

Bradley Marr He better hope he takes over for Belichick because if he doesn’t, he will never be an nfl head coach.

Charlie Gregory This is the NFL, you can disrespect your country’s flag all day pissing all over dead soldiers and their families but you cannot have the right to decide you don’t wanna coach for a burnt out team.

Derrick Anthony Just another NFL rule that has to be made up because of this bullshit franchise. This has gotta be like the 4th or 5th rule made up cause of the BS the patriots pull off every year…
