After the nationwide vote, America Votes Through Laine. Of course they do. For his victory song, Laine sings an Ode to New Orleans. It’s another winning performance from Laine. Just crown him now. Really. “Smokin Hot!” says Katy. She babbles something about the color of his suit. “You took us back home to make it,” says Lionel. Laine’s shirt is a Luke Bryan special, apparently.
Laine Hardy performs It’s Alright Mama by Elvis Presley with guitar during the American Idol season 17 top 14 in front of a live audience and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
That’s Alright Mama by Elvis Presley with guitar – Oh. So all that fan chatter about Laine going Hollywood since his humble roots last season reached TPTB. The singer’s package stresses his Louisiana roots. Laine promises that he’s the same old dude who loves to hunt and fish on the Bayou. It’s another solid performance from Laine. But I feel like I’ve seen this before? He’s really transformed into a compelling performer. But if he really hasn’t gone Hollywood? Maybe picking a popular Elvis song isn’t the way to illustrate. STILL. Laine is the one to beat at this point. “You know your strengths and you’re playing them well,” says Katy. She calls him a “good looking boy.” Luke wanted him to let go like Elvis does. “Your voice has come so far from last year.” TRUE! Lionel suggests that he keep doing what he’s doing.
Laine admits that he’s a “shy person.” Performances are outside of his comfort zone. He struggles with fear. Well, this is the perfect song choice for Laine. He sounds REAL good too. Parts of the song are a little low for Elle. They kick it up a notch on the third verse, a thing I was not expecting. It’s a great way to close the show. “You look like a rock star,” says Katie. “You sound like a rock star. You got your taste and you aren’t letting go!” Luke calls his voice “recognizable.” Lionel says, “You have really really stepped up. You have developed into a wonderful artist.” Laine gets a surprise visit from his brother Kyle. Aw. TEARS. “It makes me the proudest person in the world seeing him go so far.”
Laine Hardy sings “Bring It On Home to Me” by Sam Cooke during the Top 20 Solo round on American Idol in front of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

Laine Hardy performs “Come Together” by The Beatles and Tyler Mitchell performs “Suitcase” by Steve Moakler during the American Idol Top 40 Showcase round at the Disney Aulani resort and spa in Hawaii in front of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
The Weight by The Band – Katy asks Laine to sing a song. He obliges of course! He sings “The Weight” and the judges flip out over his improvement over the previous year. It’s true. Laine had lots of problems with intonation last year, which he seems to worked on. His raspy voice sounds strong. You found your confidence, the judges agree. They beg him to take a ticket…and we learn after the break that he goes for it. Lionel promises him that he’s got a shot. “You could win this one,” says Katy. Oh Laine’s mom happens to be there. Hm. – 3 judges “twist his arm”
Laine Hardy sings “She Talks To Angels” by The Black Crowes and Ashton Gill sings “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt at Hollywood Week. See how they did in front of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

BRING LAINE BACK! How are you going to tell him in the first audition that if he isn’t careful he can win American idol, and then send him home? what a big mistake y’all just made.
