Eddie Island Benny and the Jets
I've been a friend of Eddie for years. It's hard not to take these comments personally, because Eddie is one of the deepest and most sincere human beings I've ever met. The kind of person you have conversations for hours with without realizing where the time went. I think he is showcasing this part of his personality partially out of nervousness and partially because there are a billion cameras on you. He would never "mock the song." I'm looking forward to the moment he taps into his incredibly deep self and shows that to America. He's never done that before on stage. It will take a lot but Eddie has the talent
Eddie Island Sings Benny and the Jets by Elton John in during the American Idol 2019 Top 14 performance in front of a live audience and judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.
He was a chubby kid in middle school. He was depressed. When he reveals that–he begins giggling. After he lost 60 pounds, he felt he could do anything. He’s channeling Elton with round yellow jackets and a flamboyant jacket. His voice cracks on a few of the notes. This isn’t an easy song to pull off.
Haley Reinhart managed back in season 10 because she stylized the hell out of it. Trying to imitate Elton is not a great idea. Bye bye Eddie. We hardly knew ye. “I thought it was really good,” says Katy. She feels overwhelmed by the energy. “Don’t forget that you’re such a magnificent singer.” Luke says, “You are here because you make us smile. Vocally, make sure you stay on top of that.” Lionel is impressed that he stays true to himself.

Not sure why people slamming him. He is amazing. His voice shakes for a reason. That’s why he is so unique. I love his vibe and his attitude. It’s down to earth and just relaxing. He is having fun doing what he loves. He doesn’t use a sob story or his background to proceed farther. It’s just him and his voice and his personality and I love it. Keep it going Eddie.
