English teenager Courtney Hadwin won over the hearts of millions when she auditioned for America’s Got Talent.

She stole the show with her audition, singing Otis Redding’s Hard to Handle, and has been wowing viewers and the judges ever since. Courtney, 14, is currently competing in the live rounds of the competition.

During Tuesday’s show she performed a soulful rendition of James Brown’s Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

Courtney Hadwin is a 14-year-old aspiring musician from Peterlee, County Durham. She’s currently enrolled at The Academy at Shotton Hall.

According to The Sun, Courtney busks to cover the cost of her singing lessons back home.

Before she competed on America’s Got Talent, Courtney appeared on The Voice Kids UK. She was mentored by Danny Jones from McFly.

Courtney reached the final round of the competition, but didn’t win. She performed And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls and was beat out by Jess Folley.

Although she’s young, Courtney draws inspiration from the greats. Speaking with Heavy after being compared to Janis Joplin by judge Howie Mandel, the young singer said: ‘To be compared to Janis Joplin is really cool. I look up to Janis Joplin, and she’s one of my favorite singers.’

Citing one of Janis’s best qualities, Courtney said the legendary musician was ‘not scared to be different, and she’s her own person’.

According to Courtney’s Instagram she has a puppy, which she got for her birthday and loves very much. She also appears to be very close with her family, often posting photos with them from outings they’ve taken together.
