Chris Kläfford – Singer who won Swedish Idol – Simon didn’t like his last original song. But winning the Dunkin Save gives him courage. He’s going to do it again. Hm…this is an OK song. It sounds dated–like a song that would chart in the aughts? This song gives him few opportunities to show off his sturdy range. His vocal falters at one point. Only Julianne stands. Howie loves him but…he doesn’t love his strategy. He notes that only “Imagine” got the Youtube views. Julianne calls it amazing. ‘I love it!” Gabrielle agrees with Julianne. She loves his originals. Queen is already at the concert! She’s hearing the song produced. She admires his guts. Simon thinks he should have repeated his Judge Cuts song. Hm. That song wasn’t better than last time. Chris barely made it out of the Quarterfinals. I doubt he makes it to the finals.
Chris won Swedish Idol a few years ago. He comes from a tiny town in Sweden. “Ive been playing in small bars,” says Chris, totally leaving out his stint on Idol and his string of hit songs in Sweden. Tonight, he sings another original, dedicated to the last moments he spent with his great grandmother. He sings, accompanying himself on guitar, his voice front and center. He’s got an impressive range. His chest voice is powerful. At first, Julianne thought he needed a band. But she changed her mind. Gabrielle agrees with Julianne. But Simon didn’t feel the emotional connection like he did in the middle rounds. Ha. He’s playing third. Simon really hates these White Guy with Guitar types. Howie agrees with Simon. The song could have been stronger, but Chris managed to sing the heck out of it.
He knows his look is “odd.” He sang “Imagine” for his audition. Oh. He’s singing an original this time. It’s called “Something Like Me.” It’s about people judging him over appearance. It’s a decent tune, he sings with passion. This song shows off his range. He’s better than the singer who preceded him, actually. Oh, he’s crying too, as the audience gives him a standing ovation. Brad calls him inspiring. Howie thinks he stepped it up by singing an original song. Julianne urges him to stay who he is. Simon was less excited when he watched his audition back. Singing original changes everything, he says.
