Tyler Perry Hires Medical Examiner Following Nephew’s Death in Prison

Tyler Perry is taking matters into his own hands following the death of his nephew in prison.

Perry’s 26-year-old nephew, Gavin Porter, was behind bars, serving a 20-year sentence for fatally shooting his father in front of his mother, who is Perry’s sister.

A rep for the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office tells ET that Porter died Tuesday night at the Union Parish Detention Center from what appeared to be by hanging. His body has been sent off for an autopsy so they are waiting for results, but there appeared to be no trauma or foul play.

The rep added that Porter was isolated at the time of death due to a previous incident.

However, Perry announced on Thursday that he plans on hiring a private medical examiner to perform a second autopsy not conducted by state officials.

“A few years ago, my nephew committed a heinous crime,” Perry shared in a lengthy statement on Instagram. “The murder shook our entire family to its core.”

“Despite his horrible act, before he went to prison I went to see him in the local jail. I assured him that we all still loved him, but it was important to all of us, including his mother, that he was punished for this horrific crime that he had committed. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison,” Perry continued. “It was my hope that after serving his time, really reflecting, showing much remorse, and asking God for forgiveness, that he would have been able to come work for me. Where he would join all the other former inmates that work for me and turn his life around, just as they have. But that day will never come.”

A post shared by Tyler Perry (@tylerperry) on Feb 27, 2020 at 2:15pm PST

“Three days ago, I got the horrible news that he allegedly committed suicide in prison. I say allegedly because, unfortunately, our criminal justice system and prisons have been notorious for cover ups and/or getting it wrong,” he added. “With that in mine I have hired Dr. Michael Baden to do a second autopsy, and we are expecting the results soon.”

Perry went on to stress, “We are not a family of conspiracy theorists, and we want to believe that there was no foul play, just as the sheriff has stated publicly.”

As for the man Perry has hired, Baden is a famed forensic pathologist who previously served as the chief medical examiner for New York City. Recently, he was privately hired to investigate the death of Jeffrey Epstein, who also died while behind bars.

An official at the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office told TMZ on Thursday that there is “an active investigation at the prison’s request,” and that they are “awaiting the results of an autopsy.”

“The initial investigation did not suspect foul play. We are also conducting an investigation into the fight which occurred earlier and Porter’s involvement in that incident,” the rep for the Sheriff’s Office stated. “We respect the family’s right to request another autopsy to be done. This is not an unusual request. We are continuing our investigation and awaiting autopsy results.”

Frankie Muniz is a married man!

The Malcolm in the Middle star married his longtime love, Paige Price, in Phoenix, Arizona, over the weekend, according to multiple reports. According toPeople, the couple also eloped on Oct. 3. ET has reached out to Muniz’s rep for comment.

The happy news comes about a year and a half after Muniz proposed. The former child star popped the question after Price supported him through a tragic time in his life, as he grieved the death of his uncle and came back from the funeral to find his Arizona home completely destroyed.

“Thank God I have @paigey_price to help me get through this,” Muniz wrote on Twitter at the time. “I’d be lost without her. She’s so strong and exactly what I need.”

Price gushed over her and Muniz’s engagement on Instagram in November 2018.

“When you’re a little girl, you dream of marrying the man of your dreams,” she captioned a slideshow of the couple kissing, embracing and looking thrilled in a romantic outdoor setting with lanterns. “You think of all these extravagant things from the way he asks you, to the dress you’re going to wear, to the music you’re going to dance to with your father. Sometimes, reality has a tendency to overstep your dreams and really surprise you.”

“Francisco Muniz IV, you’re more than a dream to me,” she continued. “You teach me every day, you compliment me when I’m at my worst, and you push me past the edge but you’re there to pick me up when I start showing signs of falling. I love every piece of you, and I appreciate you more and more every single day. I truly cannot wait to be your wife ♥️ P.S. You’re officially the master of proposals. 143. P.P.S. I ugly cried so hard that I can’t even post the pictures so… there’s that.”

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Says Goodbye to Alex Karev in Next Week’s Episode: Watch Emotional Trailer

The time has come to say goodbye to Alex Karev.

After months of skirting around Justin Chambers‘ abrupt exit, Grey’s Anatomy will finally answer everyone’s questions about what happened to Alex in the March 5 installment — and from the 30-second trailer released after Thursday’s blizzard episode, it’s going to be an emotional hour no matter how you slice it. Titled “Leave a Light On,” next week’s episode finds Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and the other Grey Sloan doctors reflecting on the past, an ominous preview of what’s about to come.

The new trailer opens with an iconic shot from the Grey’s pilot in 2005, when Alex and the other hopeful interns step foot in an operating room at then-named Seattle Grace hospital. A montage of classic scenes from the show’s early seasons with Alex and the other OG Grey’s docs play through, while Meredith — in the middle of a surgery — desperately calls “her person” to persuade him to make his way back home to Seattle.

“There were five of us and now it’s just you and I and I can’t have it just be me,” Meredith tells her friend over the phone, referring to the original five Grey’s interns: Meredith, Alex, Izzie (Katherine Heigl), Cristina (Sandra Oh) and George (T.R. Knight).

In Thursday’s hour, Meredith texted her friend, alluding to the fact that she didn’t believe Alex was actually in Iowa. At the end of the episode, Meredith’s intuition proved right. Jo revealed that her husband had been keeping secrets from her about his true whereabouts — that he hadn’t actually been in Iowa caring for his mom. “He left me. I think he did,” Jo tearfully told Link (Chris Carmack). “I think he woke up one day and felt the need to escape his life and me. I called his mom. He wasn’t there. He had never been there. He left me and I can’t… I can’t breathe.”

Watch the nostalgia-filled teaser for next week’s farewell to Alex Karev below.

Showrunner Krista Vernoff addressed the sudden departure of Chambers, who played Alex for more than 15 seasons, for the first time in a February interview, promising fans that there would be “clarity” when it comes to what happened.

“It was a very careful threading of a needle, where we are giving a little bit of information and pain to Jo,” she said. “We’re, episode by episode, illuminating the story of where Alex is. And it takes us quite a few more episodes to get there and to give the audience clarity.”

Grey's Anatomy
ABC

At the time of Chambers’ departure, Alex — who had been fired from Grey Sloan at the end of season 15 for being complicit in Meredith’s insurance fraud — was serving as chief of surgery at rival Seattle hospital Pacific Northwest General Hospital (Pac-North), alongside ex-Grey Sloan docs Owen and Webber. He had unsuccessfully tried to recruit his wife, Jo, to leave Grey Sloan for Pac-North.

His presence continues to be felt through other characters, namely Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), both of whom are employed alongside Alex at Pac-North. After Alex successfully recruited free agent Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) to be the head of cardiothoracic surgery, Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) decided to buy and absorb Pac-North — in effect, neutering their staff.

In a recent episode, Jo (Camilla Luddington) revealed to Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) that Alex — who had told everyone he was away in Iowa tending to his ailing mother — had stopped returning her phone calls and was “going through something” serious, needing time to figure his stuff out.

In a shocking move, Chambers announced in January that he was leaving Grey’s after playing Alex for more than 15 seasons, citing a desire to “diversify [his] acting roles.” The series’ 350th episode, which aired Nov. 14, was Chambers’ last appearance on the show.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” the actor said in a statement to ET. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

“As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rhimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens [Jr.], and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride,” Chambers added.

Chambers’ sudden exit prompted Pompeo to briefly react to the news one day after it broke. Responding to a tweet by Vanity Fair that read, “#GreysAnatomy is about to feel one of its biggest losses yet,” the 50-year-old actress and executive producer couldn’t help but share her thoughts on the situation.

“Truer words have never been spoken,” Pompeo tweeted, alongside a brokenhearted emoji, conveying her emotions over losing one of the Grey’s OGs.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

David Beckham Reveals His Adorable Keepsake From the First Time He Met Wife Victoria

It’s been 20 years since Victoria and David Beckham first met, and the legendary soccer star still has a memento of the monumental moment.

The retired athlete sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday’s The Tonight Show and opened up about the sweet keepsake he’s held on to from the first time they ever chatted.

“She came to watch me at a game in London with her manager at the time, and one of the other Spice Girls,” David said, recalling the first time he laid eyes on her in person.

“I was just establishing myself in the Manchester United team at the time… [and] we all had our favorite Spice Girl,” he revealed. “She was obviously my favorite. It might be a bit awkward if she wasn’t.”

While they weren’t able to connect that first time, she came back a week later to watch another game, this time in Manchester, and David recalled, “We talked for about an hour in the players’ lounge.”

“She’d had a couple of drinks, so I decided to try and get her number,” David remembered. “She had actually gotten the train up that day, so she wrote her number down on her train ticket. Which I still have!”

Even before their first date, David knew her number was something special, and he’s marveled at still having that fortuitous ticket “20 years and four kids later.”

ET’s Rachel Smith spoke with the 44-year-old former soccer pro in New York City on Wednesday, where he opened up about his latest exciting business venture as the co-owner of the new Major League Soccer team, Inter Miami.

Beckham explained that the long-term goal is to leave a legacy for his four kids — Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper, 8.

“We’ve always said that this is not a vanity project for us. This is a legacy. It is what we want to create for our children. We want our children to turn around in 10, 15, 20 years and say, ‘Our dads built this,'” Beckham says of him and his co-owners, Marcelo Claure, Jorge Mas and Masayoshi Son.

“We wanna make our families proud of creating something for them, for the future, and for the people of Miami and South Florida,” he added.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Stupid Love’ Music Video Is Set in a Universe All Her Own

Welcome to Lady Gaga’s world!

The 33-year-old singer is a futuristic warrior princess in her new “Stupid Love” music video and the Monsters are here for it!

Set in a desert-like land, probably in space, Gaga leads her people to war while wearing a skimpy metallic pink bikini that matches her hair and face paint.

Like their leader, Gaga’s followers are all dressed in pink futuristic costumes — think The Fifth Element meets Mad Max — when a color-coded battle breaks out among the other tribes.

The up-tempo song is set against the striking visuals — which also includes  telekinetic powers, over-the-top costumes, gladiatorial battles and big dance numbers.

ET spoke to Tom Feeney, a Los Angeles based performer, who is featured in the new music video, which was shot entirely on the iPhone 11 Pro. Feeney, who is first shown in a blue bandana and a denim ensemble in the video, says they rehearsed and shot everything in January.

“We woke up at 5 a.m. for hair and makeup, and the sunrise on set every morning was insane,” he recalls. “The rock formations really made it feel like another planet. … ‘Stupid Love’ had an ensemble of 50, easily the most diverse group of dancers I’d ever seen working on a project like this. Everyone brought something different to the table, and I think [Gaga’s creative director] Richy really highlighted everyone’s strength.”

Of course, filming had to be kept top secret.

“They had us check our phones before every rehearsal to keep everything super confidential,” he shares. “It changed the dynamic of the rehearsals, because dancers couldn’t check their phones on break and instead would talk and connect with each other. Being out in the desert with everyone for the weekend felt like a dream. I’ll never forget it.”

He was also blown away by watching Gaga at work.

“It was a master class,” he says. “She would direct before and after each take, and then transform in front of the camera. She spoke with heart [and] with intention.”

Gaga recently opened up about the new song, and her upcoming album, on New Music Daily with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, and explained how her own romantic experiences and lessons in love influenced the creation of “Stupid Love.”

“I know everyone in the world has different relationships with love, but guess what? I’m pretty sure that when we all decide to be vulnerable, it’s really scary, and I think it’s very scary for a lot of people,” Gaga shared. “There’s all kinds of laws and constructs and things that have built all around us and, you know, what I really want to do [is for] this song to come out and I’d love for it to collapse as many of those walls as possible and for people to be saying, ‘I want your stupid love. I love you.'”

Gaga announced earlier this week that she was releasing “Stupid Love” and its music video just weeks after the song was leaked online. The single is off her highly anticipated untitled sixth studio album, which will be her first since Joanne in 2016.

“I want people to dance and feel happy,” Gaga said of her forthcoming album. “Someone asked me the other day what my goal was with this album and it actually sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud, but I said, ‘I would like to put out music that a big chunk of the world will hear, and it will become a part of their daily lives and make them happy every single day.”

While she’s singing about “stupid love,” Gaga has found romance with entrepreneur and investor Michael Polansky. Here’s what you need to know about the pop star’s new man:

Prince Harry Meets Jon Bon Jovi at Abbey Road Studios in London

John, Paul, George, Ringo, and Harry! On Friday, Prince Harry visited London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles recorded many hits, including their album of the same name.

The 35-year-old Duke of Sussex made his official appearance for a special cause close to his heart. At the studios, he met with Jon Bon Jovi and the Invictus Games Choir, where they were rerecording the 57-year-old rock star’s song, “Unbroken.”

The single was created to shed a light on veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder and to honor their service. As the patron of the Invictus Games, an international athletic competition featuring injured servicemen and women, Harry has long championed the cause.

During his visit, Harry kept it casual in a blue button-up shirt and black pants, and was all smiles as he shook Jon’s hand before the pair went inside.

This visit comes just a few days after Harry spoke at an eco-tourism summit in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Wednesday, marking his first appearance in the U.K. since relocating to Canada in January with Meghan and Archie.

At the event, he requested that he just be called “Harry,” not “Prince Harry.”

That same day, Jon had an interview with BBC Radio 2 and jokingly called Harry, “The artist formerly known as Prince.”

On March 31, the couple is officially stepping down as senior members of the royal family, thus becoming financially independent and splitting their time between North America and the U.K. Harry will continue to support the Invictus Games as a patron and will continue his focus on veterans and mental health.

Mark Wahlberg Dishes On How He Lost 10 Pounds in 5 Days (Exclusive)

Mark Wahlberg is revealing his weight loss secrets. ET’s Nischelle Turner caught up with the 48-year-old actor at the premiere of his latest flick, Spenser Confidential, and he revealed how he got in prime shape to play a former police detective.

“This is our fifth movie together but all four movies that we made together I was oddly out of shape and eating what I want and drinking what I wanted,” Wahlberg said of the Netflix film’s director, Peter Berg.

Wahlberg went on to explain that, before each movie he made with Berg he had been in other roles that required him to have a different body type.

“We did Lone Survivor right after 2 Guns and before that I did Pain and Gain, so I was really heavy and kinda bloated by the time we got to Lone Survivor,” he said. “And then we did Deepwater Horizon where I was getting as heavy as possible drinking beer and fried food to play a guy who worked on an oil rig. Then we did Patriots’ Day where I was limping around, a cop who was kinda out of shape.”

When it came time to make Spenser Confidential, though, Berg told Wahlberg that he needed him “ripped.”

“And I said, ‘OK, no problem,'” Wahlberg said. “So I literally went clean dry for five months, trained like a crazy person.”

“I just did a bone broth and a fast and a cleanse and I literally lost 10 pounds in five days. I lost five percent body fat and I lost 20 points of visceral fat literally in five days,” he continued. “Just bone broth and then steamed vegetables after the first three days and then a little bit of protein at night and that was it.”

Once he was in shape, Wahlberg and Berg began filming the movie in a place that held great importance for the actor.

“We literally shot on my street… We were sitting on my stoop waiting to shoot across the street,” Wahlberg said of his childhood home. “It’s pretty surreal considering how my childhood went and all the trouble I’ve been in and everything. To be able to come full circle, it was pretty amazing.”

The movie also marks the acting debut for Post Malone, who pitched himself for a flick while hanging out with Wahlberg.

“This whole idea of putting him in a film started at my house, at my wife’s 40th birthday. We were hanging out, having a couple of drinks, and he was like, ‘You know, I really wanna be in a movie. I’d really wanna die in a movie,'” Wahlberg recalled. “I said, ‘Well, I don’t know if I can kill you off in the movie, but we’d like to put you in the movie and maybe we can have a fight. I can beat the crap out of you and you can stab me.’ And he said, ‘Absolutely.'”

When they got to work on the project, the rapper delighted everybody with his acting abilities.

“Nobody had ever seen him act and Pete was worried,” Wahlberg admitted. “Post was a little nervous, but he came in and absolutely killed it. People are really gonna talk about his performance in this movie.”

“We have to try and figure out a way to bring him back to the next one,” he added. “We’re gonna have to get him out of prison or go back and revisit him… He does a fantastic job.”

As for the possibility of a sequel to the flick, Wahlberg said, “if audiences wanna see it, I’d love to do it again.”

Spenser Confidential will debut March 6 on Netflix.

Canada Will No Longer Pay for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Security

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be paying for their own security soon. In a statement to Reuters on Thursday, the Canadian Office of the Minister of Public Safety said that once Meghan and Harry are no longer members of the royal family, the country will not cover the cost of their security.

According to the statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been assisting London’s Metropolitan Police with security for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “intermittently” since November.

Once Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, are no longer working senior members of the royal family, though, they will not receive the publicly-funded security. Their security, the outlet reports, is estimated to cost into the millions of dollars.

The change will happen fairly soon, as the couple is scheduled to step down as senior members of the royal family on Mar. 31. The move will make them financially independent and allow them to split their time between North America and the United Kingdom.

Ahead of the change, both Harry and Meghan will be busy with events throughout the U.K. They will attend the Endeavor Fund Awards on March 5, the Mountbatten Music Festival on March 7, and the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on March 9. Additionally, Harry will attend the Silverstone Experience with Lewis Hamilton on March 6, while Meghan will go to events to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.

ET has reached out to the Office of the Minister of Public Safety and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.

‘Outlander’: Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin Dish on Musical Moments and Season 5 Struggles (Exclusive)

Outlander‘s Bree and Roger are getting their time to shine.

We’ve already seen a fabulous Fraser’s Ridge wedding, two musical moments, a daring new job offer, and a Bonnet bombshell — and we’re only two episodes into season 5!

To find out what’s still ahead for Outlander‘s newlyweds, ET sat down with stars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin and asked them to spill on those time-traveling Easter eggs, Bree and Roger’s individual “struggles,” and where the actors stand on the great stone debate.

As fans know, one of the biggest divides in season five is whether or not Bree and Roger should leave with wee little Jemmy and travel back through the stones to their own time.

“It feels to me that it’s very much logic versus emotion,” Rankin said. “There’s the logic and the practicality of we should go. It’s safer for Jemmy… but then you have, where is the heart? Where’s the feelings?”

“Well, I think one thing we keep saying as well is that actually, even if Roger and Brianna decided together and made the unanimous decision to go back to the future, they don’t know where they’re going back to. They could walk into World War III,” Skelton explained. “So if we’re talking about just the safety of the future or the 1700s, you can’t really weigh those up equally. And they reference that the Vietnam War was going on when we left, so you never know where that’s up to now.”

“Even though there are so many of the emotions that come into play and the decision, the logic isn’t as logical as it might seem to be,” the actress continued. “But for Brianna, I always say, even in the ’60s, she went from having two parents to one to three to none, and she did essentially orphan herself, and now she has this whole family around her. Jamie and Claire have now become grandparents, so to tear Jemmy away from his grandparents, to tear the family apart is just a huge decision. But obviously she knows that Roger’s struggling in that time, and that factors in too. So it’s definitely a throughline for season five, so who knows.”

(For the record, we at ET are also joining Bree and Jamie on #TeamStay.)

In episode 502, we were absolutely delighted to see Roger sing a cover of “Joy to the World” to little Jemmy, and the stars spilled that they love seeing those sweet nods to the ’60s and ’70s as well!

“It’s great!” Skelton exclaimed. “Especially for Roger, Bree and Claire. You know, they have to monitor so many aspects of their personality, their language, and everything when they’re around other people, their references — so it’s lovely when we do get those scenes where we can let the ’60s seep in. When the three of them are just together and they can talk so candidly and they have those nostalgic moments.”

“It’s like their own secret language,” Rankin added.

“Yeah,” Skelton agreed. “I get told off for throwing in ‘OKs’ for Brianna because I’m like, you couldn’t monitor yourself 100 percent of the time. I mean, she’s not an actress, so especially when she gets angry, I like to try and get as much ’60s language in there as I can. But I do get told off.”

“Yeah, I don’t do that,” Rankin disagreed with a giggle. “I just change all at once.”
