At that point, they had to sing solo for the judges, who then sent more than half of the hopefuls packing. As part of the Top 24, each had to perform twice more for the judges. First they sung a solo and then they partnered with a professional, often singing one of their trademark songs. The judges then eliminated 10 more artists, leaving just 14 to compete in the live shows.

Also, one of my sources contacted me. Here are a few more details about the taping:

  • Jessica Sanchez is the next American Icon
  • Short video packages before the performances: Catie on receiving good and hateful messages on social media; Jonny took a ballet class like Katy suggested; Cade on small town life; Gabby shared about singing in a gospel choir; Maddie on her influences; Jurneeshared about being cut from a previous season of Idol. We see a clip from her audition; Marcio talks about his life in Compton.

  • Katy said that she and her mom were obsessed with Cade and asked for a lock of his hair or a feather for her mom. She ended up getting a lock of his hair.
  • My source felt Maddie, Michael, Jurnee, Ada were the best. Marcio, Cade, Catie and Gabby turned in good performances as well.
