Alejandro Aranda American Idol
Alejandro accompanies himself on acoustic guitar with minimal band backup. It’s a sweet, touching song. But there’s no “moment” in it. And on singing shows, moments are VERY important. I kept waiting for him to break out an incredible guitar solo, or take his vocal up a notch. Lionel calls him captivating and next level. “From one songwriter to another, we are so happy to have you join the ranks,” he says, “You could here a pin drop. There is so much reverence and respect when you sing,” says Katy. She advises him to never let it get “watered down.” Luke says he will never forget the first time he met the singer, “We have been spoiled by you week after week.” Alejandro says the song is about putting down the phone and “human contact.”

Alejandro’s social media stats exploded after his audition. He mentions receiving a compliment from Stevie Nicks, and it blew his mind. Alejandro explains that he will mix his love for electronic music with keyboards. Indeed, he performs and plays from behind a DJ setup. If Idol’s first every electronic musician season six’s Blake Lewis is watching this, he’s gotta be hella jealous. He couldn’t even play an instrument back then. “In my eyes you can do know wrong,” says Luke. “Now you are DJ Alejandro,” says Lionel. “You are so versatile!” Katy calls it “incredibly smooth…you’re are real true artist…don’t forget to grow,” she says. That performance was intriguing. A REAL first for singing shows. However, it didn’t highlight his vocals at all. It was a bit too chill for the first night of voting.
Alejandro grew up listening to Ben’s music. They grew up one town apart. Ben’s family owns a music shop–Alejandro used to visit all the time. “I heard the kid, and I was in,” Ben says. It’s Alejandro’s first duet ever. He sings the high harmonies beautifully. He could learn a lot from Ben on how to phrase a song. Bobby is wearing a beanie. He looks ridiculous! Oh. Ben heard Alejandro for the first time in his family’s shop. Luke says, “Welcome to the Alejandro show. You’re so tasteful with your approach. You let music do all the talking.” Lionel says, “You’re in a a rare air group…you have a career.” Katy says, “I think you embody authenticity. Nothing is going to change you.” She adds, “You’re my emo homie.”
Greatest American Idol Audition EVER. You won't believe what the judges say about this audition!
Just Amazing. He is totally like no other that I have heard. Looking forward to his audition on wednesday, even tough I just watched it now. I will not mind at all hearing him again. Unbeliable talent he has. Blessings to him and his future, starting on American Idol!
Alejandro Aranda sings "Yellow" by Coldplay during the American Idol Top 40 Showcase round at the Disney Aulani resort and spa in Hawaii in front of Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry.
He tells Bobby that he grew up awkward and feels most comfortable on stage. I worried a little about Alejandro’s ability to cover songs. But this rendition of “Yellow” is just lovely–a beautiful, lilting arrangement. THOSE GUITAR CHORDS! He ends with a little guitar solo before delivering a vulnerable last line. Katy feels trying for American Idol was a risk. “It’s not stereotypical pop stardom..keep taking those risks. At some point it will be out of our control. But it is now. You’re in our Top 20.” – Alejandro Aranda is in the Top 20

Out Loud (Original Song) – Here we go with the audition Idol has been pimping as THE BEST EVER. Alejandro has been performing for only 3 or 4 years. He started playing guitar at 20 and began busking on the street. Alejandro is feeling a little insecure ahead of his audition. He was homeschooled. Definitely the most original and interesting audition of the night. His guitar playing is mesmerizing. He’s not a perfect singer, but he’s so caught up in the performance–he fees what he’s singing to his bones. The judges lose their minds. “You my friend are so talented,” says Lionel. He wants something on the piano. He sits down to play a jazzy thing. Another original, I’m guessing. I don’t love his voice on this, but I’m going to remember that piano playing. “I’ve never seen anything like that,” says Luke. Katy wants to know if he’s the next American Idol. Instantly shy, Alejandro won’t answer. Trent Reznor, Chopin and Bach are his inspirations. Katy thinks he’s the winner and a genius. Maybe not the BEST AUDITION EVER but pretty damn good – 3 yeses.
